naamsa | The Automotive Business Council is a non-profit company [NPC] established and registered to house the activities, assets and reserves of an industry body which represents the collective, non- competitive interests of the new motor vehicle industry in South Africa. All major multi-national automotive corporations operating in South Africa are members of naamsa.

naamsa strives to achieve the following objectives:

  • advocate, lobby, promote, advance, protect and represent the interests of the auto industry;
  • promote trade, foster and stimulate growth for and on behalf of the auto industry;
  • actively participate in conversations and activities that advance the automotive industry’s
  • competitiveness locally and globally;
  • act as a portal for expert knowledge on industry regulations;
  • collect, process, and circulate statistical information and other key industry data in compliance with the requirements of the SA law and in accordance with auto industry’s reporting protocols;
  • proactively communicate the role and the importance of the auto industry in the economic life of SA.

2. About The Role

Title

Chief Data Officer

naamsa Chief Executive Officer

 

Purpose of The Role

The Chief Data Officer will lead naamsa’s data vision, strategy and execution. The incumbent will play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of data to drive informed business decisions, lead a data acquisition strategy, optimise operations, and build out a future industry relevant product suite that supports the eventual commercial and data monetisation strategy. The Chief Data Officer will be required to work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to champion a data driven culture and innovation within naamsa. A critical component of the role would be to partner with the necessary industry stakeholders [to name a few but not limited to OEM, Dealer, Finance, Insurance, Telematix, F&I Platform providers, Digital marketplaces, Car buying services, existing industry suppliers of vehicle pricing and verification data, Micro dotting, VAPS and VAS, DMS and CRM platforms and Credit Bureaus]. The incumbent will also be required to represent naamsa in media, round tables, panels and key note speaking to elevate, advocate and position naamsa’s thought leadership within the automotive data ecosystem.

3. Key Responsibilities

  • develop and oversee the implementation of naamsa’s data strategy, aligning it with the industry data management objectives and growth plans;
  • lead the design, implementation, and management of data analytics frameworks and tools to extract actionable insights from structured and unstructured data;
  • drive data-driven decision-making by providing timely and relevant analytics to our members, the market and various business functions across the industry;
  • collaborate with the various stakeholders and partners to evaluate, implement, and optimise data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes;
  • assess emerging technologies and trends in data management to ensure naamsa remains at the forefront of data innovation;
  • further enhance Autolytics Bank and build new and innovative go-to-market commercialisation data management products for naamsa;
  • formulate and communicate a clear vision for naamsa’s data management, data governance, and data analytics to execute the vision of a trusted industry data partner;
  • represent naamsa’s at member and partner events, thought leadership roundtables and panels;
  • be an active advocate and commentator of naamsa’s data strategy publicly [social media, traditional media and any other related and appropriate channels];
  • stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies;
  • evaluate and recommend technology solutions that enhance business processes, efficiency, and naamsa’s competitive advantage in the best interest of its members;
  • develop and manage the overall data specific budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness, efficient resource allocation, and optimal utilisation of technology investments;
  • establish and enforce technology governance policies and standards to ensure that naamsa’s technology assets and initiatives are in line with best practices and regulatory requirements;
  • ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations; and
  • act as Chairperson of the naamsa Statistics Committee.

4. Essential Requirement Skills and Attributes

  • a post graduate degree in data or projects management, commerce or related fields;
  • 10 years management experience at senior level;
  • an articulate executive with superior intellect, professionalism and aptitude for learning;
  • an accomplished facilitator and negotiator interacting internally and externally;
  • must demonstrate the ability to secure buy-in at all levels within and outside naamsa;
  • shows a strong understanding of the automotive business; regulatory; social and political environment; and understands factors; trends and issues which could influence the naamsa’s business performance; and
  • a strong communicator with a clear and concise presentation style, who can convey, with consistency, naamsa’ vision in a manner that is readily accessible and understandable to all.
